Mid-Atlantic Tour With Constance Sisk

12/13/2011

Tonight I had a chance to get together with my cellist buddy Constance Sisk at her home in Richmond, Virginia to work up arrangements of the songs we're going to be playing together on our short but sweet Mid-Atlantic tour. I don't want to spoil any surprises, but I can tell you that Constance has got some killer looping-electric-cello-and-voice covers of Portishead and Ani DiFranco up her sleeve. And I'm debuting my newest song on this tour, with Greek mythology as my muse. Now I'm here in bed at my mom's house in Hanover County, Virginia, soaking up the moon shining through the bare trees in the cold, excited to tell you about what we've got in store.

Tomorrow night 12/14 we'll be kicking off our tour with a show put on by the awesome Girls Rock! RVA Rock Camp for Girls. The show is a benefit for GR!RVA, and they'll be showing a sneak peak from the upcoming documentary about this summer's first camp in my hometown. If you don't already know about the Girls Rock! movement, I highly recommend checking it out! The book Rock 'N' Roll Camp for Girls edited by Marisa Anderson is a great place to start, for musicians of all genders.

We'll be playing at the Gay Community Center of Richmond, which wasn't around when I was in high school, so I'm looking forward to discovering it. In addition to me and Constance, Be Steadwell (aka B.Steady of the Lost Bois) is coming down from DC to headline the show with her fun pop music for queer people of color and others with silenced struggles, so you know it's going to be a great night.

Thursday night 12/15 Constance and I are driving down to Wilmington, North Carolina to play at Costello's, a gay piano bar. Right? It's a show graciously hosted by the folks at Homoground, who recently featured three songs from my All the Livelong Day EP on their podcast.

Friday 12/16 will see us in the mountains of Virginia in Staunton, near Charlottesville, playing with local songwriter Sally Rose at the Darjeeling Cafe. I can't wait to see what the winter trees look like out there.

Saturday night 12/17 I'm looking forward to a monster queer show that I put together at Phase 1 with help from DC locals Angie Head, SolRose and the Lost Bois. The Phase is the oldest continually operating lesbian bar in the country! I'm looking forward to comparing it to my favorite bay area neighborhood gay bar, the White Horse.

Sunday night 12/18 we'll end things up in Baltimore with local songwriters QueenEarth and Brooks Long. We're playing at Gallery 788, a space that's soon to be looking for a new home, so come check it out while they're still around in Baltimore's Pigtown. I can't wait to play for y'all. See you out there!
