Searching For What's True is out now! Eli Conley's third album explores themes of uncertainty, ache, and loss, yet light shines through the clouds again and again. His voice is tender and heartfelt, with melodies that can leave you feeling teary-eyed yet hopeful. As a queer transgender man from the South, Eli's songs tell stories that aren’t always reflected in roots music. "These stories celebrating the challenges and triumphs of the queer experience — told with Conley’s angelic tenor and big heart — deliver truths about humanity’s courage," says Rachel Cholst of Rainbow Rodeo. |

I wrote this song when I was dealing with chronic pain due to a repetitive stress injury from playing guitar. I had to be very careful about not overtaxing my body, and even then there was no guarantee about what would happen. I remember hiking through the Oakland hills, singing loudly: “I don’t wanna hurt anymore, I don’t wanna hurt.”

This song celebrates the creative process -- writing, making art, trans and non-binary folks creating our own genders, all of us "Finding beauty in the wreckage / Making meaning of the grief / When we tell our stories true we find release."

This song is for trans and non-binary folks first coming into their identity, singers taking testosterone who are struggling to find their voice, trans folks like me who woke up one day to realize they'd been out for decades and had somehow become something of an elder, and anyone in a body that is aging and changing.
