Eli Conley's third album Searching for What's True explores themes of uncertainty, ache, and loss, yet light shines through the clouds again and again. His voice is tender and heartfelt, with melodies that can leave you feeling teary-eyed yet hopeful. As a queer transgender man from the South, Eli's songs tell stories that aren’t always reflected in roots music. "These stories celebrating the challenges and triumphs of the queer experience — told with Conley’s angelic tenor and big heart — deliver truths about humanity’s courage," says Rachel Cholst of Rainbow Rodeo.

Eli wrote this song when he was dealing with chronic pain due to a repetitive stress injury from playing guitar. He started writing it while hiking through the Oakland hills, singing “I don’t wanna hurt anymore, I don’t wanna hurt" at the top of his lungs.

This song celebrates the creative process -- writing, making art, folks creating their own genders, all of us "Finding beauty in the wreckage / Making meaning of the grief / When we tell our stories true we find release."

This song is for trans and non-binary folks first coming into their identity, singers struggling to find their voice, trans folks who woke up one day to realize they'd been out for decades and had somehow become something of an elder, and anyone in a body that is aging and changing.
