Queer Singing Circle (In Person)
For Queer & Trans People & Allies
Queer Singing Circles have been offered in Sacramento and the Bay Area. Please join the email list to be notified about the next one.
Join singer-songwriter and teaching artist Eli Conley for a gathering to connect with your breath and raise up your voice in queer community. Eli will teach rounds, songs in simple two and three-part harmony, and songs he improvises on the spot for the group to sing. Total beginners to experienced singers are welcome. No prior musical experience is needed. While this space centers queer, trans, and non-binary voices, everyone is welcome!
Accessibility: Disabled, chronically ill, and neurodivergent folks are very welcome here! The Sacramento Friends Meeting House is a wheelchair and mobility scooter accessible space with no steps and a parking lot right outside. We will sit in sturdy chairs without arms, and there is a dark, quiet room if you need to take a break. We will be the only people at the Meeting House during this time. There are two single stall ADA accessible all gender restrooms in the building. Please let me know about your specific access needs when you register. You're also welcome to reach out with any questions about accessibility.
COVID Care: Singing is unfortunately a high risk activity for virus transmission. Out of care for the health of all participants, including disabled and immunocompromised folks, this circle requires N95, KN95, or KF94 masks. Lightweight duckbill-style N95s that are more comfortable for singing will be provided, or you can wear your own mask. You're welcome to reach out with any questions.
About Eli: Eli Conley is a singer-songwriter and teaching artist. As a gay transgender man, he has a deep commitment to working within diverse LGBTQIA+ communities to build collective power, creativity, and resilience through song. He teaches music classes for queer and trans folks and allies, workshops, and offers private voice lessons and songwriting coaching.
Queer Writing Party (Online)
Come be in community while you journal, work on a song, poem, essay, story, or whatever you like. No prior writing experience needed. At the beginning we'll gather to check in and set intentions for our writing practice. There will be an optional writing prompt, and we'll all take some time to go write on our own. At the end we'll come back together and there will be space to share. You're also welcome to just stay and listen. This is a queer and trans-centered space, and allies are also welcome to join us.
Please join the email list to be notified next time this is offered.
